The Exit

I traveled down the highway of "life",
But before this tale begins,
I must tell you that I really rode
On the major Highway of Sin.

The Highway had many lanes to ride,
It was all up to me to choose
How far I wanted to go,or
Which lane that I would use.

I had not traveled very long
When I began to see
Signs by the sides and overhead
Asking in which lane I wanted to be.

They advertised all sorts of sin,
Some made me blush and turn away,
I had to choose which lane,
But wasn't there a cleaner way?

I tried to ride some of the lanes
To see which was the best;
The smoothest,the least bumpy;
Each one worst than the rest.

And then I saw it,by the road,
A different sign,an exit sign!
An exit to a One-way road ahead,
But could I get off in time?

I saw more signs ahead explaining
How to exit the Highway of Sin
It seemed so easy...just believe!
Then my new trip would begin.

I noticed as the exit drew closer
That Sin's signs were more often,
Like they didn't want me to leave.
But I was resolved;I would not soften.

So finally there was the exit lane,
I flicked on my signal and began
To move over into the lane.
I was having a hard time, from Sin.

But I managed to get off of Sin,
And I headed down the ramp,
With only the signs to lead me;
They acted as a kind of "lamp".

When I reached the bottom of the ramp
I found an important intersection:
I could get on the road of new life
Or re-enter the Highway of Sin.

I stalled for a moment,and looked ahead.
There were tempting signs on the way
Up the ramp to the Highway of Sin.
I made up my mind,the Road to endless day.

When I turned on that new Road,
I realized there was no turning.
It was a one-way Road,the only Road,
To the City where love is burning.

I also found that I enjoyed this Road
Far better than I had the Highway.
It was peaceful on this drive,
I could see no better way.

I saw the Name of the Road I was on,
It was made up of three letters:
G-O-D,God,the only way to Heaven;
Can you think of someone better?

So now I travel down this Road
And find places of beauty and rest.
Sometimes it's hard, but I don't mind,
I've always loved back-roads best.

Wow! I was reading this thinking,"this is good, wonder what book she read this in?" And to think I thought I could write poetry! Great message.
