El Asesino

This is a true story that Bro. Jarvis told down at BPS to one of the groups. I thought it was amazing. I did take a few liberties, like naming the main character Martin (I have no idea what his name really was), but for the main part the story is the way Bro. J. told it. I hope it's a blessing to you.

The streets of Juarez were dark. Illumined by the house he was in front of, a man stood behind a cart, selling fresh hamburgers. Business had been steady all evening, but now, with the late hour, only a few people stopped.

As Martin considered closing up his stand and going inside his home, a man walked up to the cart. He was well dressed, but Martin could tell at first glance he was not a weak man. And certainly not one to mess with.

"I would like a hamburger." the man said in a deep voice. "If I do not like it, I will not hesitate to kill you."

Martin nodded solemnly. In his heart he prayed, Ay, Senor, Dame las palabras para decir. (Oh, Lord, give me the words to say.) He stepped inside his house and grabbed a Chick tract. It was titled El Asesino, The Assassin. He handed it to the man and explained it was for him to read while he waited for his hamburger. He noticed the man's eyebrows rise as he read the cover.

As Martin busied himself with the man's order, he watched the man read the entire tract. He finished reading before the hamburger was cooked and stared at Martin with a steely look in his eye.

"I have killed two men today, " he informed Martin, "I have three more on my list. Is what this book says the truth?"

"Yes, it is the truth." Martin stated boldly, knowing these words could be his last. The Lord filled Martin with courage, and he knew God had opened a door here.

Slowly, Martin walked around his stand, stood beside the assassin, and threw his arm around the man's shoulders. "The Father you never knew is waiting for you with open arms." he said softly.

The man burst into sobs, and began confessing his sins to the Lord. He found his Father, with Martin's help, and then went and brought a fellow assassin to Martin. This man also found the Saviour.

Never be afraid to witness for your Saviour, whether to the assassins in Mexico, or the kid who lives next door. God is always there with His arm around your shoulders, protecting you and giving you the words to say.
