{pep talk}

"There was one thing I learned from Bro. Demarest, and that was to have faith," Bro. Jarvis randomly said to me as I finished my breakfast this morning. "For instance,"

I sat back and got ready to enjoy. I love listening to Bro. Jarvis tell stories about this place. It gives me a lot to think about.

"Up north they'll send out people to raise money to buy the paper for the print shop in Milford. I don't know how, but that's what they do. Now, before we were connected financially with them up there, we had to raise money for the print shop, too, but Bro. Demarest did it a little different.

"I remember that he would order the paper, and then pray for the money. I mean, he would order $1,500 worth of paper and then pray the money in. We had ninety days to pay the company, and you know what? We never missed a payment, and we never, ever ran out of paper in that print shop," he said, jerking his thumb in the direction of the print shop. "Not once."

"You learn to pray differently. That's what I learned, " Bro. Jarvis gestured with his hands, " There's no.....hmmm...Dear Lord, I want.....ummmm....a new car.

"No, you pray just for what you need. We prayed specifically for that money to come in. And then I remember one time, when it was time to order paper again.

"Bro. Demarest was sitting at his desk and he said, " here Bro. Jarvis hit the table, "' I'm tired of being in debt!' Then he reached over, grabbed the phone and called the paper company. And the guy answers, and he says, 'I'm tired of being in debt to you guys. I'm not going to buy any more paper from you. Here's what I want,' I mean, he really said this to the guy! 'I want you to give me the paper, and if we get the money, I'll pay you. I want you to have faith!' That's what he said!

" And the guys says to him, 'When do you want your next shipment?' Just like that.

"You know, some people pray but have a back up plan. Like a plan B. I don't think God appreciates that. 'You, know, Lord, just in case you don't pull through in time.' It really doesn't make sense to me. Don't ever have a plan B, it's not worth it.

"I mean, goodnight!, this is God we're talking to!"

He talked on for about thirty more minutes, but this is what stuck out to me. And then he finished with, "I don't know what got me started on that. Hmmm, captive audience, I guess."

You're so blessed to have those times with him. He's one of me heroes, a hero in blue jeans and a cowboy hat. Tell him and the Mrs. I said hello.

My faith is so wimpy. Of course, I would never admit that out loud... it kind of hides under the cover of I'm being responsible. How many blessings I must have missed. Thanks for sharing! Great thoughts to think on...er, um.. act on!
