{Welcome to Our Home....the Kitchen}

Welcome to our home all the way down in Texas! I keep hearing that everyone {apparently} wants to see my house. I was going to wait until I posted pictures of the wedding but that's taking awhile so I decided I would just go ahead and give you all the tour now. I'll be doing it room by room, and the first room is probably my favorite.

That's right; the kitchen. First I'd like to say that I am so thankful to have a mom who taught me all I know in the kitchen and gave me a reason to like being in that room.  So thanks, Ma.

Anyway....when you come in your front door you actually come into the living room, but I wanted to post about the kitchen first. So, take a few steps forward off the rug and turn to your left and here we are, the kitchen. I used to not like the color red and now I can't imagine why. I've used it to accent the kitchen a lot. Don't you just love the gingham valances?
Anyway, back to the tour. If you would come in the back door and walk down the hallway this is the view you'd get. The rug in front of the sink {under the window} was made for me last Christmas by my sister, and though it doesn't match the room, {it's blue and white} I like using it because it is so comfy for my feet while I wash dishes. Another thing I'm thankful for in our house is that they put in new wood flooring, but wood floors still aren't as comfy as a homemade, love-made rug.

Sorry, I get so distracted with my sentimental things...and we aren't done yet. Hang in there...
This is the wall beside the fridge. If you've known me for a while and have read this blog from the beginning, the stars and the wreath used to hang in the bedroom I shared with my sisters. I had painted them a deep red, and I discovered that they went great with my new kitchen and that they also are very handy for holding aprons. I really like aprons and wear them as often as I can. I think it's another old-fashioned thing that my sister and I share.
If you come over to the sink and turn around from looking out the window at my desert view, you'll see our "dining room". I just realized my table is off center from the window. Oh well. There's also the stand that our microwave is on. Go ahead, look closer, I don't mind.
I keep my cookbooks and mixing bowls here. And my bag of go-away stuff for goodwill. And I put out some of my measuring cups too. I like looking at them and I didn't want them to hide away in the cabinets.

If we go back to the sink and look to the right, you can see my Kitchenaid mixer {that was bought for me by my friends; THANK YOU SO MUCH!} and some of my mugs. And some other little decorations.
Now if you come over to my fridge you can see my bottle collection on top. Sometimes it drives me nuts because when we close the doors the bottles move. But I don't know where else to put them, so there they stay. And there are some pictures on the fridge. Colorado and Wyoming postcards, a verse I wrote out, the meal plan for this week, a picture of Dad and us kids at the beach a LONG time ago, and a picture of my Grandma Davis doing what I always knew her to be doing, serving. In that picture she's pouring iced tea. I'd like to frame it because it matches my kitchen {she's pouring tea out of a red pitcher and there's a red-checked tablecloth} and because Grandma is one of my heroes in the kitchen.

See what I mean about being sentimental?
This is the section of counter and wall beside my stove. I have a red crock thingy to keep my utensils in, my recipe box, a small bowl with bacon grease in it, and then tea, flour, coffee, and sugar.
These three canisters came with the house and I was not about to get rid of them. I really like them, with all their vintage feel.
I thought I'd quick show you some of my dishes. I decided to just buy plain white plates that have a sort of imprint on them. So I have some with wavy edges, some with lines, some with a basket look, some with oak leaves and acorns, and some with dots.
This is my favorite mug. It goes along with the white theme, and I really like the vine imprint on it. Plus I found it while we were on our honeymoon in Colorado, at the thrift store we used to shop at when we lived there. So, yes, it's sentimental, too. Plus I like the size of it.
Okay, lastly, you can look at the window-sill between the kitchen and living room. But don't peek! We'll get to that room later. Back to the window sill. From left to right you'll see a candy dish that looks like an apple pie{I found this in Colorado, too}, a candle holder that looks like a bucket{from a friend}, a piece of embroidery of a hen and her little chick{done my me}, and an old kitchen utensil that I'm not sure what it is{from Dad & Ma}. Dad thinks it was a slaw chopper.
So I guess I'll show you back outside for now so you don't peek into the other rooms yet. I hope you've enjoyed seeing the kitchen. Watch out for Roxie, the neighbor dog who's adopted us. She tends to jump up.

Ya'll come back now, ya hear?

SO I wish I could drive over and have a cup of tea with you. I do love the red and the other things you said. That poor rug still won't lay right. Hopefully my next one will. Love you!

Very nice! I really like your choice in dishes... all the same color and different styles is one of my favorite things!
