{day sixteen|most people don't know this but...|}

I reckon there's a lot of things I could say that people don't know about me.

But here's my story that most people don't know about me:

{one time, I almost went blind}

Or thought so, anyway.

This all happened when I was probably 6-8 years old, when we lived at that house known to our family as The House on The Hill. This house was surrounded by woods, and we kids had forts all over the place in them. I don't remember what we were doing the particular day I thought I was going blind, but we were outside and it was summer. I know it was summer because the bugs were bad.

And because the bugs were bad, Ma had told Anna, the oldest of us kids, to spray us with bug spray before we played in the woods so we wouldn't get eaten alive.

So there we are, all standing outside, gathered 'round Anna, waiting to be sprayed down, when all of a sudden, I've got bug spray in my eyes. I don't remember how it happened. Did I not close my eyes tight enough? Did Anna not warn me she was spraying? Did Erin or Josiah distract me? I don't know.

But the next thing I felt was the burning in my eyes. I'm sure I probably started crying because I was a little girl. And I remember Anna saying, "We gotta hurry! You might go blind!", which may have sent me into hysterics.

She drug me back inside and upstairs to Ma, who tried to calm me down. Then she took me into the bathroom and somehow got my head under the sink. Next she told me that I needed to keep my eyes open and let the water rinse out all the bug spray. I remember trying to but it was hard.

After that I don't remember much else of that day. I probably dried off, quit crying, ate something, and then went back outside to do as originally planned, play in the woods. I wonder if I was the only one terrified that day. I have a hunch that Anna might have been too.

As you can tell though, if you know me, I am not blind. But I do have a good memory of that day, and even chance to laugh at it every now and then.

Now, here's the real test. Who knew that about me?

Ha ha! I was laughing so hard right now I was crying. I was scared too. Thought I'd blinded my little sister.
