{rainy day ramblings}
I've been meaning to post about these few things for a while, but thanks to Walmart {you'll find out why} and a bit of forgetfulness on my part, I'm only now posting. And it's pretty much a post of bits and pieces that don't have a common theme. But anyway, it's a post.
I'll start with this apron.
I bought this apron a few years ago at a thrift store, and it was already kind of old. And with all the wearing and washing it's taken, the binding on the edges were fraying away. So I decided to buy some bias tape and redo all the edges on it. It took me almost three weeks to do it {this is where Walmart comes in}. I bought two packs of tape, and then had to go get one more to finish up. But our wonderful Walmart doesn't see the need to restock the sewing shelves, I guess, so I ended up having to go to Hobby Lobby, pay a little bit more, and get a red that was slightly lighter than the rest of the tape I'd bought.
Anyway, I finally finished it, and I'm kinda glad it happened because it also gave me the chance to shorten the top straps. The top has always been big on me.
I know the pictures aren't the greatest but at least you can tell that there are no frayed edges anymore.
During that apron escapade, I also worked on making cloth napkins. I decided a while ago to switch but never took the time to make them. I still can't figure out why we ever switched to paper napkins when it's cheaper to use the same ones over and over again. My sister's suggestion is that it's less work, which makes sense. I'm also going to give up paper towels, too, and just add some more rags to my pile. However, you all should be happy to know that I am NEVER going to quit using TP, so no worries about that if you ever come over!
Ok, off that tangent and back to the napkins. I have been stashing some material from some old stuff on property, and I finally turned some into napkins. First we have four Christmas ones, sewed with glittery gold thread I found with the material. I sewed an extra seam around the edges, just because of the gold thread.
Then I had some blue material in my sewing bin for years and so I got two heavy duty ones {in the background}, and four thinner ones {in the front}. The blue calico in the middle was also free and I think I got about six out of it.
And lastly I had a huge piece of bandana material that I turned into 21 napkins. I only made them about a foot square, but I figured that with paper napkins, we use about a 5" square, so they should be big enough.
Here's a close up of that pretty blue calico.
Other than little things going on at home, March has been kinda busy for me. We had a group come in one Saturday to assemble Bibles, {so I helped cook lunch for them}, and a few get-togethers here on property. And last Friday night we had a ladies' night out for the ladies at church. Some of us went thrift-shopping before the actual activity, and then we ate supper at the mall and walked around for a few hours. Mall-shopping isn't really one of my favorite things, but it was still some good fellowship. It reminded me of all the {few} times my family went to the mall, mostly with Dad at Christmas time to pick out presents for Mom. Good times...
To finish off, here are some pictures of the amazing clouds we had the other day. They looked so surreal!
I'm working on some other projects, but one is my younger sister's graduation gift, and the other isn't quite finished yet, so I'll post more about those later. Oh! and I've got curtains for the little house on the back of a truck in the works, so there may be a post about that sometime, too.
