{ HOME TOUR | master bedroom }

Welcome back to our home! Today I'll be showing you the master bedroom. So without further ado, let's jump in!

 When we first moved in, we had our bed centered under the built in shelf on the wall, but recently I was ready for a little change, so I moved the bed into the corner like you see it now. I'm not a huge fan of it, since the window makes it impossible for Trevor to have a nightstand, but it works for right now. I don't leave things in the same place very often.

Anyway, that's my dresser under the shelf now. The bins in the corner used to be in our closet in El Paso, but one of the downfalls of this house is having only two closets for hanging clothes. So I share a closet with Evy and Trevor's clothes are hanging in the upstairs bathroom. Someday we plan on putting a closet in this room, but that's probably quite a ways in the future.

Last in this picture, that's a window seat! I'm hoping to make a cushion for it, but for now I just have a comforter folded up on it and some pillows to lean on.
 Here's the other half of the room. Trevor's dresser, hampers, big gorgeous mirror. Not too much exciting going on here.
 And the room from the other angle. The pocket doors, like I said in the last post, lead to the living room. I like pocket doors, but they are hard to attach a lock to, so that hasn't been done yet. On the wall by the door is our shelf with hooks. It's nice to have since we don't have a closet, but it's obviously full a lot of the time.Underneath the shelf is my "hamper" for the clothes I need to iron.
 On the opposite side of the doors there's another shelf with hooks. We made this one specially for my necklaces, and I love how it turned out. I copied the one I saw on Craftiness is Not Optional.
 This is the built in shelf...a here's a little history. Knollwood was built in 1903, so originally the master bedroom connected to what is now the dining room. I assume they were parlors but I'm not really sure. They were connected by a large doorway right here where the shelf is now. I assume they built the shelf into the wall to save the crown molding when they sealed off the doorway, but once again I'm not really sure.

I set up my National Parks postcard collection on it, as well as my alarm clock, perpetual calendar {in the red basket} and my basket of knick-knacks. I had some succulents on them but I don't think they got enough sunshine, so I moved them to another room, close to a window.
 Another picture of the bed, and part of the window seat. I've tried to incorporate blues in most of the house, and this room seems to have a lot of navy. You may remember the mountain collage from an old post, if you've been here before. It's one of my favorite things about this room, along with the curtains.
 Oh, the curtains, let me tell you about them! Curtains are sooo expensive, and with needing at least three for this room, I was hard put to figure out what to do. At first I bought some navy sheets at Walmart, cut them in half, and hemmed the edges. They worked ok, but I felt like they were still sort of see-through.

Then we went on a trip to North Carolina and stayed at an Air B&B, and they had pretty, heavy curtains in the living room. And you know what they were? Painter's drop cloths! They look kind of like burlap, and they're nice and heavy. So I came home and bought some for our bedroom, and I love the way they hang, and gather on the floor. I think they add farmhouse charm. And best of all, they were cheaper than curtains! I like them so much, I'm thinking about getting some for the dining room, too.

Hey, I might end up curtaining all my rooms this way someday. I can't get over how much I love them.
